MLB DFS Picks: September 23 Late Slate (7:05)

Spread the love

The MLB season is wrapping up, but still plenty of MLB DFS picks to be made. Looking at tonight’s (September 23, 7:05 EST) slate, we’ve got four games to work with. They all occur in the AL/NL West and hold importance due to playoff implications. That makes this slate better because you can expect star players to still be in lineups daily.

Pitchers

Starting Pitching: Jordan Montgomery, Texas Rangers (DK-$8700)

I know there are other options like Clayton Kershaw and Logan Gilbert, but both are also a premium cost. Instead, I like the look for Montgomery in this spot. He gives you flexibility and he has been above average his last two outings  (14 innings, 11 strikeouts and 1 earned run).

Avoid Pitcher: Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners (DK-$10,200)

Gilbert is going against Texas tonight and his cost isn’t worth what he’s been putting out. Over his last two starts, Gilbert has given up multiple home runs and allowed a combined 8 run. He faces a Rangers squad who can put up runs in a hurry, reminder that they popped off for 15 runs Wednesday against Boston. Gilbert hasn’t given me a reason to think this is the game he gets back on track.

Infield Phenoms

Paul Goldschmidt, St. Louis Cardinals (DK-$5100)

Goldschmidt has hit safely in his last three games and will look to continue that streak against Pedro Avila and the Padres. After a few games without a home run, I expect to see Goldschmidt go deep with 20 of his 25 home runs coming off of righties this year. He hasn’t had the same year as his MVP 2022 season, but he is still producing above average.

Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals  (DK-$6,000)

The year of Bobby Witt Jr. for the Royals has been a great one. He is a dynamic dual-threat who is facing a pitcher the Royals just had great success against. The last time KC saw J.P. France they tagged him for 5 runs. . He has 29 home runs and 48 stolen bases on the season while hitting .278. Lately Witt Jr. has been running like a mad man. He has added 9 stolen bases over the last 11 games. If he gets on, expect him to just keep going.

Outfield Studs

Chase McCormick, Houston Astros (DK-$4400)

McCormick has gone 5-for-10 (.500) in his career against Lyles, including two home runs, and Lyles has given up an AL-leading 38 homers in his 29 games this season while posting a 6.43 ERA in a rough season for the veteran righty. You have great choices in Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez, but the numbers show McCormick is a strong pick AND gives you the wiggle room for my other pick.

Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers (DK-$6700)

You can’t mention outfield studs and not have Mookie listed. It’s an easy pick, but he’s an easy pick for a reason. The man gets on base. If he isn’t getting hits, he is getting walked. I know he has struggled with only producing 2 BB in the first two games of his series against the Giants, but I expect him to break out for a big game.

Good luck with your MLB DFS picks and let’s hope everyone ends up in the green tonight!
